Why 10% of the world population struggles to wake up early
Hello there,
This week it rained cats and dogs. You probably have seen the news. We are not used to this in the UAE, but I must say this country leads by example every time. The way people came together to help each other was something I had never witnessed before.
Also, since I couldn’t leave home, I surfed the internet more than I should have. Wow! These self-proclaimed health and productivity gurus never cease to surprise me. Let me rant for a second:
“You don’t need to wake up early to be successful; this is propaganda invented by productivity gurus who have zero clue about how the human body works.”
This is why:
This literally has an evolutionary reason. If all members of a tribe adhered to an exact sleep schedule, the entire group would be vulnerable to predators. If sleeping patterns were staggered, the whole group would be much less vulnerable.
Today, I will share with you a quick test to assess your sleep quality.
However, one important but often ignored factor in sleep assessments is that different people may have widely differing “chronotypes” which is a fancy way of saying if someone is a morning person or not a morning person.
Most of these differences are genetic; a morning person will have different circadian genes.
So take this with a pinch of salt, take the meat, and throw away the bones.
A step framework to fix sleep deprivation:
Give ourselves permission to sleep and admit that we need more sleep.
Assess your sleep habits using a wearable; ideally, we want to track intermittently.
I recommend using an OURA ring after having tried 4 different ones.
Take a long-term assessment like the Epworth Sleepiness Scale.
The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is widely used in the field of sleep medicine as a subjective measure of a patient's sleepiness.
The test is a list of eight situations in which you rate your tendency to become sleepy on a scale of 0 (no chance of dozing) to 3 (high chance of dozing).
When you finish the test, add up the values of your responses. Your total score is based on a scale of 0 to 24. The scale estimates whether you are experiencing excessive sleepiness that possibly requires medical attention.

What did you score? Reply to this email and let me know 😉 (When you do, I will send you the 10 rules of sleep by my sleep coach Gregorio Mora).
Until the next time!
